7 Must Have Items For Chronic Pain

It's been years since I started suffering from chronic pain and like most spoonie, I've tried so many different products over time. Some are rubbish and some I cannot live without.

I don't know if any of these things are revolutionary or not but I thought it would be a good idea to share them because I'm always reading blogs trying to find new things to try out to help manage my fibromyalgia.

Heated blanket

This is one of the greatest inventions! When I get cold, I find it very hard to warm up and that triggers pain for me so I need to keep warm. I bought my heated blanket from Lakeland a few years ago but you can buy them from loads of different shops now. In the Autumn and Winter months I keep it in the living room so I can use it whenever I'm sitting in there watching TV.

Heating pad

A heating pad is hands down my most used and loved product for chronic pain. It's a life saver! I have one from the brand Dreamland that I've had for years and it's still going strong. It has 5 heat settings, it's machine washable and it automatically turns itself off after 3 hours so you don't have to worry about forgetting to switch it off at nighttime.

Microwaveable heat pack

I have 3 different heat packs for the microwave and they are so handy. I've taken them on holidays before and I use them a lot for my neck pain. Unlike the heating pad, this can sit nicely over your shoulders and around your neck so it's perfect for neck pain.

Essential oils

A lot of people use essential oils in a diffuser or in body oils. I prefer to use it in an oil to apply to my tender areas before I massage any tight muscles. I usually only use it on my neck and my favourite essential oil is peppermint because it leaves a cooling sensation which is great for pain.

Portable tens machine

If you haven't tried a tens machine yet then you are missing out. It's the only thing that actually makes a long term difference to my neck pain. I have a rechargeable one so that I can take in with me anywhere. Mine comes in a little case with a USB charger and replacement pads. It has lots of different setting and it's automatically switches off after 20 minutes. It's amazing because I can feel my muscles melting when I use it and any tightness and pain just faxes away.

Weighted blanket

This is my newest item and I love it. I haven't been using it as much in the summer because it does keep me quite hot and I get bad night sweats (nice!). It's great for restless legs, anxiety, pain and sleep. I love it! You can buy them in every colour, in different sizes and different weights. You can even buy ones for children to help them sleep at night. Mine is from amazon and it comes with a removable cover that can be machine washed.

Blackout eye mask

I often have to go back to bed in the daytime with my chronic fatigue and I've been getting a lot of migraines so a blackout eye mask is essential. When I get migraines I cannot stand any light so I always have my eye mask close to my bed. The one I have is a silky material and is adjustable so I can place it loosely on my head if I have a migraine. I'd love to try a heated eye mask to see if that helps with migraines. If you've tried one before, please let me know how you got on with it.
